MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY

The appendix is a tiny, finger-shaped organ that sticks out of the large intestine (right side). While it has no known function, sometimes it becomes inflamed or infected.

Acute appendicitis, which is the inflammation or infection of the appendix, is a common reason people present to the emergency room with abdominal pain. Prompt surgical treatment is important to prevent the appendix from rupturing.

We are specialized in minimally invasive methods of surgery. This means that, when possible, surgeries are performed with a surgical scope that allows for completion of the operation through minor incisions. Because no major abdominal incision is made, minimally invasive surgery reduces post-operative recovery time and risk of complications.

Surgery is normally performed:

LAPAROSCOPICALLY - in most cases, with an overnight stay in the hospital.
